Costume Designers Get Their Moment In The Spotlight
FASHIONISTA.COM | 07/30/13
The opportunity to try new things while maintaining a costume design career is appealing. “I like to consider myself a ‘Renaissance Man,’” Daman told Fashionista.com. “To exercise other creative outlets professionally is a thrill and a treat. You don’t always get to work with amazing brands, like Swarovski. It was a dream to see designs transform into beautiful retail realities.”

SUMMER CENTURY 21 STYLE—
The Brand’s Newest Ambassador Styles In-Store Looks!
He was dressed in a pale blue blazer and looked like the epitome of spring. When I asked him out of all the trends that are big this season, which one was his favorite, he replied, “The graphic trend. It’s easy for everyone to wear, and when you pair it with bright accessories, it looks fresh and chic.”
Talking about fashion, I asked him what would be the biggest splurge for this season. Eric stated that a bag is the best item to splurge on. That if you are going to spend money on just one big ticket item, buy a luxury “IT” bag as it will last you for years and years.
If you’re nervous about trying one of the new trends, Eric suggested that you pick out items in and out of your comfort zone, and spend a lot of time in the dressing room trying them on. He said, “Leave your husband at home, and spend time looking at all the racks and in the fitting room to really see how things fit and look on you. You should take your time, not rush yourself and explore the new trends.”

THE EMMYS | CLOTHES MAKE THE SHOW:
Eric Daman: ‘Gossip Girl’
Eric Daman, the costume designer for “Gossip Girl” on the CW network, is arguably as integral to the creation of Chuck Bass — the entitled, womanizing high schooler and heterosexual fashion pioneer played by Ed Westwick, right — as the show’s writers.
“He’s a straight male who doesn’t care,” Mr. Daman, left, said. “He’ll walk around the Hamptons in a beautiful mint-green suit and a bow tie if he feels like it.” To illustrate Chuck’s sartorial pizzazz, he showed the producers photographs of James Bond, Steve McQueen and Oscar Wilde. Because “Gossip Girl” is essentially a soapy chronicle of Upper East Side Manhattan families, private schools and class distinctions, Mr. Daman dresses the vindictive rich girl Blair as Brooke Astor meets “His Girl Friday.”
